A few weeks ago one of my Instagram followers commented on one of my posts, saying that she would love to see tips about dressing for travel – looking effortlessly chic in the airport and on the road.

So Susan, this one’s for you!

If you’ve ever travelled before, whether by car, plane, train or boat, you know how arduous and exhausting it can be. So how do you get from Point A to Point B (often hours later), looking effortlessly chic?Read below to find out…

Tip #1 – Plan Your Outfit

First and foremost, plan your outfit. Many people don’t plan their travel outfits or put any effort into them and then wonder why they feel frumpy or not put together.

If you want to look stylish or chic, you have to put some thought into it. Take as much time planning what you’ll be wearing while you travel as you would any other outfit.

Tip #2 – Wear Fabulous Shoes

Shoes can make or break an outfit. Choose a pair that is both comfortable and fabulous. They’ll take your outfit to the next leveland give you that vibe you’ve been looking for.

If you have to wear flats or sneakers when you travel, choose ones that have some sense of style. There are a ton of cute, stylish and chic sneakers, loafers, oxfords, ballet flats, etc., available at every price point. It’s easier to look stylish and chic if the pieces you’re wearing are stylish and chic.

Tip #3 – Choose Stylish Pieces

As with your shoes, if you want to look stylish while you travel, make stylish choices. If you can, choose pieces that already have an element of style or interesting details. You’ll have less work to do to get your outfit there.

My absolute fave pieces to wear when traveling are graphic T’s, boyfriend or distressed jeans, faux leather leggings, cropped skinny pants or baggy pants with gathered or tight bottoms. Not only are they comfortable, they already possess a certain element of style and are super easy to work with to create a stylish or chic outfit.

Tip #4 – Layer Up

Not only are layers practical, they’re a great way to add interest to an outfit. Cardigans, blazers, bombers, denim and leather jackets, are great pieces to add to your base.

I often have a cardigan tied around my waist. Not only does it add a bit of street style to my look, it comes in handy when I get cold.

Tip #5 – Style Your Outfit

No matter what you choose to wear, don’t forget to style your outfit. This is where the magic happens and where you can take an outfit from drab to fab

Front tuck or tie the front of a longer shirt to show off your shape and add interest. Fold longer sleeves or push them up to your forearm to draw the eye up and create space around the mid area. Roll the hem of your pants or push up the bottoms (if you’re wearing sweats or leisurewear), exposing the thinnest part of your leg. Throw a jacket or coat over your shoulders. It’s the easiest way to add effortless chic to your look.

Tip #6 – Accessorize

Accessories are the icing on the cake, the pièce de résistance. They complete an outfit and help make you look put together

Pearl or diamond (real or faux) stud earrings are a super simple addition and can add a little bling or elegance to your ears. A statement watch, cuff or stacked bracelets on your wrist are easy to throw on, as is a statement necklace or multiple thin chain necklaces. Throwing some sunglasses on your head or having them hang on your shirt is another effortless way to accessorize.

Tip #7 – Be Comfortable

The key to effortless chic is to look comfortable and at ease. If you’re fussing with your outfit or uncomfortable, it defeats the purpose. Make sure that you’re comfortable in everything you wear and that there’s no outfit maintenance required while you travel.

So there are my 7 Tips. Hope they help! And hope you get to travel somewhere fabulous to put them to good use. Bon voyage!
