How to Navigate Venus Retrograde and Your Style
I’m no astrologer, but I follow it regularly. While I may not completely understand everything that goes on astrologically, I get the gist of things and plan accordingly. Apparently Venus went retrograde on March 4th and there’s a whole slew of do’s and don’ts that accompanies it. What they are depends on who you listen to or what you read (and I listen to way too many). As a Stylist though, the two don’ts that really stand out are…
- Don’t buy any luxury items – you might regret the purchase. (Sorry Chanel. You’ll have to wait.)
- Don’t try any new styles – they won’t be lasting. (Maybe someone should’ve warned Katy?)
The no-luxury item thing I can live with. I really don’t NEED a new pair of Manolos. But no-new-style? Come on. What fun is fashion without a little experimenting?
Now I’m a big proponent of solid wardrobes based on personal style, body shape, colour, blah, blah, blah. But throwing in a few trends here and there, playing around with them and trying new things, keeps getting dressed fun and exciting. If we constantly wear the same things in the same way over and over and over again, we might find ourselves a little bored with our outfits. And our style. (Venus retrograde or not.)
So if you don’t want to wait 6 weeks until Venus goes direct (or even longer until it’s out of shadow), here’s what I suggest.
If you’d like to try something new (new colour, new style, new cut, etc.), don’t make any commitments. If it’s a new purchase, keep the receipt and know the return policy. That way you can return it if you change your mind. Also, don’t spend a ton of money. You might find that as much as you love something initially, by the time Venus goes direct, you might change your mind and regret your purchase.
If you’re merely trying a new way of wearing or pairing what you’ve already got in your closet, then this is the perfect time to do it. No money spent, so no money lost if it doesn’t work out, and you can keep trying until you feel you’ve got it right. The only risk here is if you’re photographed in your newly styled outfits or if you post your outfits on social media. You might find yourself looking back at your photos with regret or hitting the delete button.
The funny thing about Venus is that you can fall completely, madly in love with something while it’s retrograde, only to fall completely out of love as soon as it’s direct. (Same goes for people. But that’s a whole other kind of blog post.)
So for the next 6 weeks, or until May 20th (just to be safe), take it easy. Go slow, be cautious, don’t commit. But do still have some fun. Be curious, try new things and experiment. Just don’t spend a small fortune and don’t fall in love. Definitely don’t fall in love! Especially with those new Jimmy Choos. Or that new Jimmy.
