When Shopping for an Outfit Doesn’t Go as Planned (Video)
As a follow up to my recent post, 5 Ways to Ensure Holiday Party Dressing Success, I’m posting this video to show you what could happen when you don’t give yourself enough time to prepare for an event.
Last Tuesday evening I had a holiday networking event. I had bought a ticket weeks before, wrote it down on not one, but 3 different calendars (home, work, phone), stared at it on all 3 calendars and still waited until the morning of the event to figure out what I was going to wear.
Since I had recently lost some weight, I had only a few appropriate items that fit properly, so I decided to head out to the shops in search of the perfect outfit. And it had to be the perfect outfit because as a stylist, the first thing that people do when they find out what I do, is give me the once-over. You know – the full head to toe scan to check me out. My appearance and my outfit is my calling card, business card and testimonial. So what I wear to a business event is extremely important.
I had in mind exactly what I was going to wear and all I had to do was find it. And I had a total of two hours to do it. Unfortunately things didn’t go as planned, I couldn’t find anything remotely resembling what I had imagined and I was running out of time.
So what did I do? I let go of the idea in my head, opened my mind and started from scratch…
